Minami-Honmoku Pier has been developed since 1990 as a new logistics base at the Port of Yokohama.
Minami-Honmoku MC-1 and 2 began operating in April 2001 as terminals capable of handling the increasing number of containers and larger container ships. The container terminals feature quay depths of 16 m, are lined with five container cranes capable of handling 22 rows of containers, and have a combined quay length of 700 m (350 m x 2).
Subsequently, MC-3 Terminal was completed in 2015, and MC-4 Terminal was completed in 2020 to begin operating. They feature a total quay length of 900 m, Japan’s deepest quay at 18 m, and five container cranes capable of handling 24 rows of containers, giving them the ability to deal with super-sized ships. Furthermore, the quays were reinforced for seismic resistance (seismically reinforced quays), and all cranes were installed with seismic isolation devices to bolster the earthquake resilience of the overall terminal.
Today, MC-1 to MC-4 are operated together, allowing flexible operation of the entire facility to accommodate different types of ships with different routes and schedules.
