Yokohama Port Corporation (YPC) and Yokohama Kawasaki International Port Corporation (YKIP) have been supplying our port facilities with electricity derived from renewable energy sources since April 1, 2022 as part of our decarbonization efforts.
These efforts are expected to reduce annual CO2 emissions by approximately 10,280 tons.
The Port of Yokohama has been promoting environmentally friendly port development by introducing LED lighting, installing solar power generation equipment, and experimentally introducing a stand-alone hydrogen fuel cell system, ahead of other ports in Japan. We expect that the introduction of renewable electricity will further promote decarbonization efforts at the Port of Yokohama.
-Electricity to be introduced-
YKIP | YPC | |
---|---|---|
Introduction Period | From 1 April 2022 | |
Electricity | Real C02 Free electricity *1 (RE100 applicable) | Renewable electricity *2 (RE100 applicable) |
Annual electricity consumption | Total approx. 21 million kWh | Total approx. 2.2 million kWh (excluding Daikoku C-3, 4) |
Effect of introduction | Estimated annual CO2 emissions reduction of approx. 9, 300 tonnes | Estimated annual CO2 emissions reduction of approx. 980 tonnes |
The ‘non-fossil value’ of electricity generated from ‘non-fossil sources’ (methods of producing electricity) that do not use fossil fuels is extracted and converted into certificates, which are then combined with non-fossil certificates derived from renewable energy sources, etc., to produce electricity that has a zero CO2 emission factor. Virtually CO2-free electricity.
*2: Electricity from renewable energy power plants in the “13 Tohoku municipalities” that have cooperation agreements with Yokohama City is used.
