On March 17, 2026, we had the pleasure of hosting a delegation from the Board of Directors of the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port (PAS) in the Kingdom of Cambodia. The group was led by H.E. Lou Kim Chhun, Delegate of the Royal Government of Cambodia and Chairman and CEO of Sihanoukville Autonomous Port. The group was welcomed at the Minami-Honmoku Container Terminal, where they were introduced to various initiatives and efforts being undertaken at Yokohama Port.
On the day of the event, in addition to providing an overview, various initiatives related to Carbon Neutral Ports (CNP), including the practical trials of hydrogen fuel cell-powered cargo-handling equipment. Furthermore, the efforts to enhance efficiency through digital transformation (DX) technologies, such as CONPAS were also highlighted.
The presentations were delivered by representatives from the Kanto Regional Development Bureau of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT), the Port and Harbor Bureau of City of Yokohama, Yokohama Kawasaki International Port Corporation (YKIP), and UTOC Corporation. Following this, the delegation observed operations at the terminal. Afterwards, they engaged in discussions with Yokohama port officials, including our company president, Mr. Uematsu.
Sihanoukville Port, Cambodia’s sole deep-sea port, has undergone significant development since the establishment of its container terminal in 2008, supported by the Japanese government. Following this upgrade, the port has seen a rapid surge in cargo handling volumes.
Regarding container operations, it reached 1 million TEUs in 2024 and handled 1.33 million TEUs by 2025. Currently, the port is constructing a new terminal capable of accommodating large container ships, with the adoption of cutting-edge measures like QR code-based container flow management for advancing digital transformation. In addition, the initiatives underway to promote green port practices, such as terminal decarbonization as well.
Meanwhile, until the opening of the new terminal, enhancing the efficiency of the existing terminal has become a pressing challenge to meet the growing demand. Efforts are being made with the collaboration of JICA’s technical cooperation project to optimize terminal operations and alleviate congestion at entry gates. Employees from our company are actively contributing to this JICA-led technical cooperation project as experts in their respective domains.
