On January 22, 2025, President Uematsu cordially greeted Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport of the Kingdom of Thailand, Mr. Suriya Jungrungreangkit, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Chairman of the Port Authority of Thailand (PAT) Board of Commissioners, Mr. Chayatan Phromsorn, and Director General of PAT, Mr. Kriengkrai Chaisiriwongsuk, who visited the Port of Yokohama in order to attend the 10th anniversary ceremony of the partnership port cooperation between the Port Authority of Thailand and the City of Yokohama.
At the ceremony, in the presence of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, the Letter of Intent (LOI) on the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on cooperation between the two ports was updated, which includes a commitment to exchange information on green ports, decarbonization innovations, and digitalization.
Uematsu said, “We would be honored if our cooperation with the PAT Green Port Project based on this collaboration, has been of any help. It will be beneficial for both ports to continue to work even more closely together on common issues”.
In addition, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport said, “I am delighted to attend the signing ceremony. Both ports play a crucial role in the economy and tourism of their respective countries, and we hope that this partnership will contribute to the sustainable development of both nations.”
Furthermore, the Chairman of the PAT Board expressed his appreciation, added “On behalf of the PAT, I would like to thank the City of Yokohama for its cooperation so far, and we are seeking a balance between logistics and tourism while emphasizing environmental protection, and we hope to further develop the partnership between the two in order to develop the port industry”.
After the ceremony, members of the PAT visited the Yokohama Port International Cargo Center (Y-CC) at Daikoku Pier.
YPC continues to work with the Yokohama City Port Authority to deepen cooperation with the PAT and is committed to the further development of both ports.
– Main initiatives to date based on this partnership –
Based on this partnership, Yokohama City has been continuously implementing workshops on port operations and human resource development, as well as human resource exchanges. In addition, YPC, as the representative business operator, have been implementing the Ministry of the Environment’s City-to-City Collaboration Program for Supporting the Smart Port Development in Thailand (FY2016, FY2017, FY2018), the JCM Model Project (FY2017-FY2020), and the Modal Shift Support Project by improving operational efficiency at Laem Chabang Port (FY2019-FY2020).
