Dr. Ichio Motono, Senior Executive Director of Yokohama Port Corporation, attended the regional forum hosted by IAPH Asia 2 in Sydney, Australia, on September 21, 2026. The forum was held under the leadership of Ms. Marika Calfas, Vice President for the Asia-South 2 region and Chief Executive Officer of NSW Ports, Australia, bringing together IAPH member ports from Australia, Southeast Asia, and the South Pacific.

The forum hosted distinguished guests, including IAPH President Mr. Jens Meier (Chief Executive Officer, Hamburg Port Authority, Germany), Immediate Past President Mr. Subramaniam Karuppiah (General Manager, Port Klang Authority, Malaysia), Vice President for North America Mr. Eugene Seroka (Executive Director, Port of Los Angeles, the United States), and Vice President for the Asia-North 1 region, Dr. Ichio Motono.

During the meeting, participants exchanged views on key issues such as cybersecurity and strategies for decarbonization. Dr. Motono presented Japan’s approach to addressing climate change in island nation ports, drawing on Japan’s own experience as an island country to support ports in the Pacific Island nations.
